Data Linkage Project

Established clinical outcome registries such as the Australasian Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons (ASCTS) Cardiac Surgery Database, the Victorian State Trauma Registry (VSTORM) and the Australia and New Zealand Intensive Care Society (ANZICS) adult and paediatric databases, collect little or no information about transfusion practice. The non-transfusion data that is collected allows for the analysis of outcomes and potential risk adjustment indicators for factors known to influence outcome.

This project will utilise existing data about patient blood transfusion and align it with the outcome-based information currently collected by clinical registries to investigate the risk adjusted outcomes of transfusion.

The Registry Data Linkage project involves six Victorian public hospitals:

1. Alfred Hospital
2. Austin Hospital
3. Geelong Hospital
4. Monash Medical Centre
5. Royal Melbourne Hospital
6. St Vincent’s Hospital
The Data Linkage project is being managed by Dr Zoe McQuilten. Assistance with data management and manipulation of data from the various sources to enable linkage is being provided by the DEPM Clinical Informatics and Data Management Unit.
